Pazanfu è Hejianfu, oggi Hejian 河间, posta su un fiume che ai tempi degli Yuan comunicava con il Grande Canale; il nome Hejianfu risale al 1108, sotto i Song Settentrionali, e nel 1265, sotto i Mongoli, P. fu sede di un lu (Haw 2006, p. 108).

La forma originaria potrebbe essere, secondo Pelliot, Cacanfu o Cacainfu: «This correct reading is actually found once in F, but the other form of F, “Cacianfu” (> Z “Cacanfu”), may be an early alteration of a still better “Cacainfu”, and “Cacanfu” is perhaps “Cacainfu” > “Cacamfu” > “Cacanfu”; for the name certainly covers Ho-chien-fu (pronounced then Hŏ-kiän-fu), and chien (kiän) is rendered gain or quen by Polo».
